Barbara G. O’Brien – Carmel, Indiana, age 92, was born July 19^th, 1926 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She passed away on January 12, 2019. Barbara’s childhood was spent in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois. She attended Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.  During college, she met her late husband, Frank B. O’Brien, who was a student at the University of Notre Dame at the time. She was preceded in death by her parents: Frances S. and John L. Greene.

Barbara and Frank lived in Chicago and Golf, Illinois; Shaker Heights and Upper Arlington, Ohio; Bad Homburg and Koenigstein, Germany; Tampa, Florida; and Carmel, Indiana.  Loving mother of; Robert (Daphne), Dennis (Mary), Margaret (Pat) Joyce, Terrence (Missy), John (Kim), Patrick (Renee), Barbara Browning, and the late Frank and surviving spouse, Karen.  In addition, Barbara is survived by 25 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.

Barbara was a long-time member of the Meridian Hills Country Club, where she obtained her first, “Hole in One,” and also a member of Carrollwood Country Club in Tampa, FL.  She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

The Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 AM Friday, January 18^th at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at Notre Dame. The burial will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery, on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.  Barbara will be laid to eternal rest alongside her beloved husband, Frank. The family will be surrounding Barbara at the burial.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in honor of Barbara G. O’Brien be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
